How can we be social, casual, fun, vulnerable & authentic on so-called social media apps when all the moments are constantly out-of-context (ever checked the posting time?), stick around forever (that 10 years old embarrassing photo from a frat party) or fixed for 24 hours (a deadline on my bestie’s moment, seriously?). Neither do we talk about only most happening things nor talk chronologically like robots every time we meet friends.

NEED MORE REASONS?
Then we have new crop of apps, making moments accessible the next day, telling us to be real 2 minutes a day, making everyone anonymous like we haven’t already been bullied enough. And the special ones, making us pay to talk to strangers or engage with AI slop (found a friend to feel less lonely yet?)

WHY US?
YOLLO is born out of mental health struggles of two George Washington University students. They have personally dealt with suicide attempts, clinical depression, anxiety, low self-esteem, body image issues, loneliness, bullying & financial struggles. YOLLO is their way of building a better social network which they did not have growing up.

WHY NOW?
At the end of the day, we are social animals. People still go out for drinks, join running clubs, catch up over brunches, but with time, our moments started happening online. We moved from Myspace to Facebook to Reddit to Twitter (X). From Google Plus & YouTube, we moved to Instagram, Snapchat, WhatsApp, Discord & TikTok. And now we are exploring BeReal, Threads, Locket, Bluesky etc. Accept it or not, we always find a way to connect with friends both offline & online. It was time to finally give people a safe online space to be their authentic self in THIS. VERY. MOMENT.

One early indicator that we’re on the right track is that the YOLLO is lit with live real-life moments and real conversations which you won’t find anywhere else.
