How To Use The Vital Signs (VS) App Heart Rate Monitor Properly
Blood Pressure
The blood pressure test is the main feature of the VS App. To accurately measure your blood pressure, follow the “How it works?” directive on the test page indicating the positioning of the phone depending on sex of the user. When taking each test, sit up comfortably, hold the phone on your chest as shown in the “How it works?” on the test page and press ‘start’. The algorithm collects data each time your heart beats so make sure that while you are taking the test, no other source is causing a disturbance on your body. Breathe gently while taking the test. You may stop the test after some seconds or let it run the width of your phone. It takes different time to run the width of the phone on different phones, this is due to different screen sizes and different manufacturer of phone sensors. The default time is set to be 15 seconds but only a fraction of phones will obey this rule due to larger and longer screen sizes. If the test is taking longer than 15 seconds on your phone, you may stop the test. It is recommended you let the test run for at least 5 seconds before you stop it. After you stop, click the save button and return to the history page to see your new result. Your heart spikes (ECG) will also show on the result page. The final result is based on your heart spikes. If you obey the stated rules, your result should be accurate and reliable. However, note that this app is only supplemental. If you have doubts about the results you get on VS App, please consult your doctor immediately. Don’t take the results as final. The VS App completely relies on the vibrations caused by your heart on the phone to produce the final result, so if there are other factors that are consuming or blocking this vibration, like a thick clothe, or thick layer of body fat, the result will not be accurate as intended. Also, if you don’t place the phone on your chest in a position where it will record the heart beat the most, the result will not be accurate. However, if you sit up comfortably, then the app will pick needed vibrations. Hold your phone in place on your chest, in your heart area as show in the “How it works?” link on the test page to get a reliable reading. You can also add your blood pressure result you get from other medical devices on the VS App. Use the Add Measurement Manually button.
Breath Count
Click “How it works?” link on the text page to see how to take a breath count accurately. Note that this test should be conducted in a quiet environment for accurate reading.
Step Count
We take step count by measuring the phone’s X, Y and Z axis so that a step can be counted only when you move in any direction either walking or running. It's important to note that the exact orientation of X, Y, and Z depends on how the device is held and how the accelerometer is mounted within the device. Follow the “How it works?” directive on the test page.
Share Result
You can share results of all test to other VS App users if you know their email. You can share your blood pressure or breath count result with your doctor for immediate assessment.
