Venture out and get to know the nature of Mexico, download Enciclovida today!
EncicloVida is a consultation platform created by the National Commission for the Knowledge and Use of Biodiversity (CONABIO), on the species that live in Mexico. It gathers and interconnects CONABIO information on around 103 thousand species of plants, fungi and animals and complements it with information from other digital platforms.
Descriptions, scientific names, synonyms, common names in different languages and indigenous languages, potential distribution maps, collection records from museums and herbariums, local projects, photographs, among other resources, are gathered from CONABIO. This information is complemented and updated with information from citizen science. From Naturalista (www.naturalista.mx) more than 1,000 daily photographs and more than 4,000 daily records from AverAves (ebird.org/averaves/home) are included.
To obtain information on the categories of risk and international trade at a national and global level, consult the Official Mexican Standard 059 (NOM-059) of SEMARNAT and connect with the International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN) and the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Flora and Fauna (CITES). It is also connected to the Encyclopedia of Life, Macaulay Library at Cornell University, and the Missouri Botanical Garden. Through the EncicloVida platform (www.enciclovida.mx) you can consult scientific articles with Google Scholar, ResearchGate, Biodiversity Heritage Library and the CONABIO Library.
The participation of society is essential to solve today's environmental problems and the first step is the knowledge of what we have. Let us appropriate the knowledge of nature in Mexico and together contribute to solving the biodiversity crisis.
In addition to discovering more than 110,000 species of flora and fauna, now you can also:
1. Search by region: all municipalities and protected areas in Mexico are included!
2. Filter by groups of plants, fungi or animals, by distribution, by risk status (both national and global), by uses, or environments.
3. You can meet endangered, endemic, exotic and invasive species.
4. Also, access photographs, videos and audios of species that inhabit our country.
5. You will be able to select different sources of information for each species.
6 Also, create and download digital species guides for any region.
And the best thing is that you can share your searches and guides to species and regions throughout Mexico with your contacts and on social networks!
