The prayers that make up the Rosary are arranged in sets of ten Hail Marys, known as the decades. Each decade is preceded by one Lord's Prayer followed by one Glory Be. During the recitation of each set, one of the Mysteries of the Rosary is considered which evoke events from the lives of Jesus and Mary. Five decades are praying the rosary. Other prayers are sometimes added before or after each decade. The rosary beads help to say these prayers in the correct order.

The rosary begins with a short fragment:

The sign of the cross on the crucifix;
The prayer "O Lord, open my mouth, God, come to my aid, Lord, hurry to help me", still in the Crucifix;
The Creed of the Apostles, still on the Cross;
The Lord's Prayer at the first big beads (with the intentions of the Pope and the needs of the Church in mind);
Hail Mary on each of the next three beads (for the three theological virtues: faith, hope and love); and
Glory.Be on the next big beads.
Then there is prayer for decades, repeating this cycle for each mystery:

Announce the secret;
The Lord's Prayer on large beads;
Hail Mary on each of the adjacent ten small beads;
Glory be on the surface before the next large swelling; and
Summarizing:

The Salve Regina;
Loreto Litany;
Any further intentions; and
The sign of the cross

The Mysteries of the Rosary are meditations on the episodes in the life and death of Jesus from the Annunciation to the Ascension and beyond, called the Joyful (or Joyful) Mysteries, the Sorrowful Mysteries and the Glorious Mysteries. Each of these Mysteries contemplates five different stages of Christ's life.

The 15 promises fall under the category of "private revelation" and as such are a pious tradition that is freely believed or not.

Whoever will faithfully serve me by saying the Rosary will receive signal favors.
I promise my special protection and the greatest favors to all who recite the Rosary.
The rosary will be a mighty armor against hell, it will destroy vice, reduce sin and overcome heresies.
This will cause virtues and good works to flourish; for the soul he will receive abundant God's mercy; it will turn people's hearts away from the love of the world and its vanities, and lift them to the desire for eternal things. Oh, these souls sanctified themselves like that.
The soul that is commended to me by praying the Rosary will not perish.
Whoever recites the Rosary devoutly, adhering to the meditation on its sacred mysteries, will never be conquered and never overwhelmed by misfortune. God will not punish him in His righteousness, He will not perish by unsuccessful death (unprepared for heaven). The sinner will convert. The righteous grow in grace and become worthy of eternal life.
Whoever has a true devotion to the Rosary will not die without the sacraments of the Church.
Those who are faithful to recite the Rosary will have the light of God and the fullness of His graces during their life and death; at the time of death they will share in the virtues of the saints in paradise.
I will free those who consecrated themselves to the rosary from purgatory.
Faithful children of the rosary deserve a high degree of glory in heaven.
