The Our Father (Pater Noster), also called the Lord's Prayer is the best known of Christian prayers. The Our Father is taught by Jesus to his disciples who ask him how to pray, as reported in the Gospel according to Luke (11: 1). The Our Father brings together the most essential themes of Jesus' preaching and expresses our identity as his disciples with strength and conciseness. The new formula of the Our Father (effective from 29 November 2020), desired by Pope Francis, no longer has the invocation to God 'not lead us into temptation' but 'do not abandon us to temptation'. Prayer is the breath of faith, it is the dialogue of the soul with God.
