Stepwise

Stepwise is an app that can help farmers incrementally adopt farming practices. It breaks down the large basket of practices that are promoted to farmers into different steps the farmer can take, decreasing the investment burden for the farmer by breaking it up into smaller sets of practices. This app goes through each step, assessing if a farmer is carrying out a practice, and thus assesses how far the farmer is in the steps in Stepwise. The app thus aids the extension officer in advising the farmer in which practices to invest in next, and also gives descriptions on how to carry out the practices. There is also a library which gives the extension officer more in-depth overview on how practices are supposed to be carried out, and where available there is also an explanation video. The library also has extra advice by showing what the biggest constraints farmers face when carrying out specific practices, which aids in their advice to farmers in which practices to carry out. The extension officer can add a profile for a farmer and save the progress the farmer has made in the app. This way, when revisiting the farmer, the extension officer can see the progress they have made and give new advice on how to progress in Stepwise.

Currently the app only focusses on coffee farmers in Uganda, but in the future it will both expand to different farming systems, as well as different countries and regions of the world.
