Dilemma Game · Beschrijving
The Dilemma Game app has been developed by Erasmus University Rotterdam (EUR) to stimulate awareness of, and an open and critical discussion about, integrity and professionalism in research. Discussing relevant dilemmas is vital as it contributes to an open, safe, and inclusive research culture in which good research practices are deeply embedded.
The game consists of dilemmas with four possible courses of action which the players can choose from. It is important to note that due to the complexity of integrity-related dilemmas, there is no winning or losing in this game. Rather, by defending and discussing these choices in the context of a critical dialogue, the game aims to support researchers in further developing their moral compass. The game can be used in a variety of settings, and therefore it has three modes: Individual, Group, and Lecture.
• In the individual (solo) mode, the app user can vote on dilemma’s that are monthly uploaded and see how others have voted. Users can also submit their own dilemma, which might be uploaded after reviewing.
• The group mode can be used by a small (2-7) group of players and allows the group to discuss a specific set of dilemmas, relevant to the group. The game itself gives instructions, and an overview of game statistics is displayed at the end.
• The lecture mode can be used for large groups and enables a lecturer to host a plenary discussion while the audience votes on a pre-selected set of dilemmas. A supplementary website (dilemmagame.eur.nl) enables the lecturer to show real-time results to the audience.
The Dilemma Game app is freely available to all researchers and research institutions in The Netherlands, and beyond.
