NettOpp APP

NettOpp is a mobile application for children and young people exposed to negative incidents online or cyberbullying. This can, for example, be excluded and kept out of groups or events, that someone shares or sends ugly messages, photos or videos, threatens or spreads rumors online. These are some examples, but there are many people who experience various negative incidents online that are difficult to deal with.

NettOpp will help young people who have experienced negative incidents online or cyberbullying by providing information, advice and guidance. For example, instructions are given on what to do when you have been exposed to something negative online (say it, document it, untag names, report it and block the harasser).

NettOpp will help young people to speak about what has happened and describe what
which should happen when you have spoken up. The app also refers to online resources that exist and which you can use anonymously if you have been exposed to something negative online or cyberbullying.
The app will also help young people to understand their own reactions and give them guidance on managing thoughts, feelings and stress related to negative incidents online and cyberbullying. Thoughts and feelings are connected, negative thoughts can therefore have a negative effect and cause you to feel down. NettOpp therefore contains a thought clearing exercise to help young people to be able to recognize negative and inappropriate thoughts and learn to replace them with positive and more appropriate thoughts so that they can feel better.
NettOpp also teaches young people some exercises that they can use when they feel stressed, nervous or tense. One exercise is a breathing exercise where they learn three different breathing techniques. The second exercise is a relaxation exercise to learn different ways to relax. Young people who experience negative incidents online or cyberbullying can also have problems sleeping as they can often ruminate on things at bedtime. NettOpp contains advice on what you can do to improve the quality of your sleep.

NettOpp also offers quizzes to provide better knowledge about image sharing and laws and
online rights, as well as the sending of pleasant push notifications.
NettOpp has been developed by researchers at the Regional Knowledge Center for Children and Young People, North (RKBU North), UiT Norway's Arctic University and the Regional Knowledge Center for Children and Young People, West (RKBU West), Norce Research. The two regional centers carry out research, service support and teaching in child protection and mental health. The centers are funded and receive their mandate from the Directorate of Health and the Directorate for Children, Youth and Families. Precisely is part of the UngRisk research project.
