Sun Map is a solar event utility for the outdoor adventurer and photography enthusiast. It is the ideal companion to help you plan a photography shoot, or simply find the perfect vantage point to view a sunrise or sunset, for any date, anywhere in the world.
Key Features:
• Time and direction of sunrise, sunset, and noon transit
• Compass-driven map-rotation (on supported devices)
• Search by landmark, locality, or street address
• GPS positioning of your current location
• Drag and drop map pin for exact placement
• Local time zone and elevation above sea level
• Correction for atmospheric refraction and elevation
• Correction for local magnetic variation
• Map types include: terrain, satellite, and hybrid
• Touch gestures for map zoom, tilt and rotation
• Store an unlimited number of favourite locations
• Capture map snapshots for offline use
• Supports landscape and portrait orientation
• Compatible with both phone and tablets
Technical Notes:
The sunrise, transit and sunset calculations implement the algorithm described in:
Solar Position Algorithm for Solar Radiation Applications
(Technical Report NREL/TP-560-34302, Revised January 2008) by Ibrahim Reda and Afshin Andreas, based on the algorithm described by Jean Meeus.
Limitations:
• Requires an Internet connection for full functionality
• Accuracy reduces around the polar regions
• Auto-rotation requires a hardware compatible device
