GIY · Description
Eating sustainably has never been so important. Or complicated.
The GIY app turns this problem into simple, engaging and motivating food challenges – bite-sized actions to learn new skills, discover new meals and share the journey with friends.
GIY are the creators of the urban farm to fork restaurant GROW HQ, the TV series GROW COOK EAT, the food growing starter kit GROWBox, and have supported millions of people to start growing food through different campaigns and programmes since being founded in 2008. The GIY app puts these years of experience and knowledge into your pocket.
It all starts with getting your hands dirty. Growing some of your own food is a proven path to a different outlook on food, what GIY calls food empathy. Knowing where food comes from and its true value is the first step to a healthier, more sustainable diet. Even better, GIYing comes packed with the mindfulness and well-being of getting closer to nature and putting your own food on the table.
Horticulture often sounds intimidating, so you won’t find any Latin plant names here. This app’s mission is to turn all that mystery into simple steps that reward you along the way.
Growing food is just the start. The GIY app comes packed with a vast range of sustainable recipes, direct from GROW HQ’s award-winning Head Chef. Showcasing the best of the veg patch, plus sustainable approaches to meat and dairy, these recipes are hand-picked for simplicity, taste and a bit of adventure. You’ll also find food sustainability quizzes and challenges for supermarkets, restaurants and the back of your cupboards.
Each challenge allows users to earn points according to difficulty level and kick off some friendly competition with friends, colleagues and even other companies or groups. The community referees one another, so no cheating. Other features allow users to explore their friends’ culinary missions and keep track of their own progress.
The path to a sustainable diet is paved with GIY joy.
AVAILABILITY:
Newly launched, the GIY app is currently only available on limited release to companies as part of the GROW Circle sustainability programme. For more information, visit www.giy.ie.
General release is scheduled for Spring 2021.
