Canfield Solitaire · Description
Canfield Solitaire is a popular patience card game which was invented as a casino game. It is a very difficult game to win and main challenge in the game is to move as many cards as possible to the foundation.
At the beginning in Canfield Solitaire, player is dealt 13 cards to a reserve pile (top card is turned face-up, remaining face-down). One card is dealt to the first foundation pile which acts as the lead rank for the game. Further one card each is dealt to four tableau piles. Remaining cards are set aside forming a stock pile which can be played to a waste pile one or three cards at a time. Once all cards are played to the waste pile, it can be moved back to the stock pile for further redeal from stock to waste. Unlimited redeals are allowed.
Tableau is built down by alternate color, wrapping from Ace to King if necessary. Top card of a tableau pile can be played to the foundation. Empty tableau is first filled by top card from the reserve pile. If reserve pile is empty then top card from the waste pile can be played. All cards in a tableau pile can be moved as one unit to another tableau pile. Foundation piles are built up by suit, wrapping from King to Ace if necessary.
This game contains following variants of the classic Canfield Solitaire
- Canfield (draw by 1) - Cards from stock to waste are dealt one card at a time.
- Canfield (draw by 3) - Cards from stock to waste are dealt three cards at a time.
- Chameleon - This variant has only 3 tableau piles. Reserve pile is dealt 12 cards in stead of 13. Tableau is built regardless of suit. Cards from stock to waste are dealt one card at a time. No redeals are allowed. Empty tableau pile is first filled with a card from the reserve and then any other card if reserve is empty. Any or all cards can be moved between two tableau piles.
- Rainbow - Similar setup as Canfield. Tableau is built down regardless of suit. Cards from stock to waste are dealt one card at a time. No redeals are allowed.
- Storehouse - All deuces are taken out and dealt to foundation piles. Tableau is built down by suit. Cards from stock to waste are dealt one card at a time. Two redeals are allowed.
- Superior - All reserve cards are dealt face-up. Tableau is built down by alternate color. Cards from stock to waste are dealt three cards at a time. Unlimited redeals are allowed. Empty tableau pile can be filled with any card (no need to fill it from the reserve first). Any or all cards can be moved between two tableau piles.
