👍 The Bear Bible:
The Bible is a text loaded with great spiritual significance for the global Christian community. Its beauty and mastery is undeniable, as has been expressed by its scholars over the years.
The Bible is the most read book in the entire world. But it was not always like this in the history of Christianity. In fact, by the middle of the 16th century its translation into vulgar languages was still prohibited.
Its study and access was allowed only to the clergy and, to a certain extent, to the monarchy. However, the story would take an unexpected turn thanks to the efforts of the Sevillian Hieronymite monk Casiodoro de Reina, who undertook the task of translating the text into Spanish for the first time.
Finally, in 1569, the first Spanish copy of the Holy Scriptures saw the light of day in the city of Basel, Switzerland. This first printing was a direct translation of the original Hebrew texts, which is why it is today the most emblematic version of the Bible.
This first version was called the Bear Bible, since on its cover you could see a bear next to a tree trying to take honey from a beehive. Later, this version was revised by Cipriano de Valera, leaving the Reina Valera version that we know to this day.
Now you have it free to enjoy on your phone. Download it now!
