AKLU Kettlebell Platform Timer APP
Features include:
- Counting up or down since lifters have preferences.
- Visual and audible cues for starting and ending a set.
- Haptic feedback on the "+" button - watch your lifter, not the controller!
- Cast to GoogleCast devices with a lifter-optimized display!
- Miracast (HDMI over USB or WiFi direct!) to extend the display.
This app was built as an accessible alternative to expensive imported hardware solutions and ad-hoc solutions for platform control. We SPECIFICALLY designed it to use low-spec (cheap) equipment - 97% of Android devices work. All you need is a $30 Googlecast receiver and any monitor with HDMI to make it work!
Stuff we're working on:
- Improved landscape display. Works great on tablets, not so much on phones.
- Platform numbers, lift, and lifter info on the display.
- Data capture for hosts (auto-certs, auto-ranks, submit to AKLU!)
- A "Premium" version that will allow logo uploads by the competition host.
Minimum Phone/Tablet Requirements:
- Android 8.1 (Oreo) or later
- 2GB RAM minimum (3GB+ recommended)
Cast Device Requirements (for lifter displays)
- Google Chromecast with Google TV (HD or 4K)
- Chromecast Ultra (legacy)
- Built-in Google Cast TVs (if stable)
*** GOOGLE CAST, SCREEN MIRRORING, OR DIRECT CONNECT CABLES ALL WORK - internet is NOT required, you'll just get a screen mirror of the app vs the pretty receiver screen. ***
Setup:
- Plug Chromecast devices into your monitors (legit, any HDMI should work)
- Set up Chromecast devices using standard Google Home app.
- Judges connect their app devices to the same Wi-Fi.
- Cast timer sessions from app to any display.
Best Practices for Competition Hosts
- Use dedicated tablets/phones for judges.
- Turn off notifications or background apps.
- PLUG IN YOUR DEVICES and disable auto-sleep.
- Prefer 5GHz Wi-Fi or wired Ethernet for Cast devices.
- If you have a spare router, run your own private SSID (not shared).
