condolence and solace; In the sense of patience, consolation, and the meaning of consoling so-and-so; That is, I consoled him, and the Noble Qur’an, the honorable Prophet’s Sunnah, and the sayings of the scholars came in many texts that urge the Muslim to be patient, and there was in it what contains sympathy for the people of the dead
Condolences are urging the injured person to be patient, and there are no specific words for it. It is better to offer condolences with the words that the Prophet, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, used.
Imam al-Shafi’i, may God have mercy on him, said: There is nothing temporary [i.e., specific] in condolence. End quote from al-Umm.
Ibn Qudaamah, may God have mercy on him, said: We do not know of anything limited in condolences... End quote from Al-Mughni.
Shaykh Ibn Baz, may God have mercy on him, said: There is no specific wording in it. Rather, a Muslim should console his brother with the appropriate words he can, such as saying: (May God bless your consolation, compensate for your misfortune, and forgive your death) if the deceased was a Muslim. End quote from Majmoo’ al-Fataawa.
And Sheikh Al-Albani, may God have mercy on him, said: “And he consoles them with what he thinks will comfort them, relieve them of their grief, and motivate them to be content and patient, which is proven from him, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, if he knew it and recalled it, and if not, by what is easy for him of good speech that achieves the purpose and does not contradict the law.. End quote from Ahkaam al-Jana’iz.
It is better for the afflicted to be consoled as the Prophet, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, consoled his daughter, saying: Bukhari and Muslim.
